Colin Gamroth Named 2021 CAA Football Student-Athlete of the Year

RICHMOND, Va. (March 30, 2022) – Villanova offensive lineman Colin Gamroth was selected as the 2021 CAA Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year by a vote of the conference's athletics directors.

Gamroth graduated last May with a degree in computer engineering and a minor in computer science, achieving a 3.91 grade point average. He currently has a 4.0 GPA while working on a Master's degree in Cybersecurity and a Master's degree in Software Engineering. Gamroth has been a member of the Dean's List, the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll and the Villanova Athletic Director's Honor Roll during each semester.

In 2019-20, Gamroth was a Radar and Machine Learning researcher at Villanova. As part of his senior project, he was a member of a team that received American Sign Language recognition for creating a translator using radar technology that allows a deaf person to communicate with someone who doesn't know sign language.

On the field, Gamroth started 30 consecutive games on the offensive line after initially joining the team as a walk-on. He is a three-time All-CAA honoree, making the third team in 2019 before moving up to the second team in 2020 and 2021. Villanova posted a 10-3 record last season, earned a share of its first CAA Football championship since 2012 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS playoffs. The Wildcats were ranked No. 8 in the final FCS Top 25 polls.

Nominees for the CAA Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year must have senior standing academically with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
