VUNITED INCLUSIVE PROFESSIONALS (VIP) NETWORK

VUnited Scholar employment partners are invited to be honorary members of the VUnited Inclusive Professionals (VIP) Network. Objectives of the VIP Network include celebrating the VUnited Scholars employment community, supporting VIP network partners, and championing inclusive work opportunities for VUnited Scholars and alumni.

The VUnited Scholars Internship program is designed to facilitate professional experiences geared towards developing meaningful career and vocational skills. It provides student-centered, strength-based work opportunities in diverse fields, rotating their placement each semester, including both on and off campus internship roles. Ongoing post-placement support is provided for the interns and employers which includes on-site visits, supervisor/staff education, and individual support meetings.

VUnited Scholars intern in diverse fields which include sports, media, marketing, public safety, natural sciences, film, performing arts, business, hospitality, and education. Students have a variety of roles at their internships which include administrative support, retail and hospitality, structured routine jobs, data entry and basic computer tasks, customer service, maintenance, horticultural work, and creative projects. We prioritize placing students in positions that are reflective of their strengths, skills, and career interests.

The Value of Inclusive Hiring

Fostering neurodiversity in the workplace offers organizations a competitive edge, often bringing measurable financial and cultural benefits. A workforce that represents the neurodiverse customer base can help represent a business’s commitment to the community. Research from Accenture, in partnership with Disability:IN and the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), reveals major benefits of disability inclusion in the workplace such as increased innovation, reputation, productivity, supplier ecosystem, and market share.
