The Bernard John Lucci Senior Citizen Personal Enrichment Program at Villanova University invites lifelong learners aged 65 and better to audit classes, participate in campus life, and engage meaningfully with our vibrant community through the shared pursuit of truth, unity, and love.

Personal Enrichment students may audit approved courses, on a space-available basis, during the fall and spring semesters. Course offerings and availability vary each term. On occasion, the program offers exclusive learning opportunities for Personal Enrichment students, including lecture series, workshops, and special events.

Participation in this program is free of charge; however, there is a fee for parking on campus.

Step 1: Apply

  • Prior to enrolling in a course, interested individuals must submit an application, available on the Bernard John Lucci Personal Enrichment Program website. Proof of age (e.g., driver’s license) is required as part of the application.

  • Applications must be submitted at least two weeks prior to the start of the semester. The Villanova Academic Calendar is available here for reference.

  • Applicants will receive an acceptance letter once their application has been approved.

  • Students who have not registered for a course in two or more years are considered inactive and must reapply.

  • Villanova email and login credentials for new Personal Enrichment students are issued following acceptance into the program.

Step 2: Browse Courses

  • Each semester, a select number of courses are available for Personal Enrichment students to audit. These courses are finalized several weeks before the application period begins. Other learning opportunities, such as lecture series exclusive to Personal Enrichment students, may also be announced during this time

  • Personal Enrichment students may register for either one course or one lecture series per semester.

  • Personal Enrichment students are not permitted to contact faculty members directly to request approval to register for a course.

Step 3: Register for a Course

  • Personal Enrichment students register during an assigned window that begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 3pm on the second business day after the drop/add period ends.

  • Personal Enrichment students may not register for a course if:

    • there are no available seats, or
    • the maximum number of Personal Enrichment students has already been reached. (Typically, one Personal Enrichment student can be admitted per five traditional undergraduate students, with no more than five in total.)
  • Personal Enrichment students may register only for courses that carry the “CPS PE Approved” attribute.

Step 4: Prepare for Class

  • After registration and prior to attending class, Personal Enrichment students must:

    • Obtain a parking permit (if applicable)
    • Obtain a Wildcard (student ID)
    • Set up their Villanova email address
    • Access Blackboard (Villanova’s learning management system)

Step 5: Attend Class

  • Once registered, Personal Enrichment students may begin attending class.

  • Personal Enrichment students are not permitted to attend class prior to completing registration.

What Does It Mean to Audit?

  • Upon enrollment, Personal Enrichment students are expected to confer with their instructors to understand the expectations and level of engagement permitted while auditing the course. The level and nature of participation permitted may vary by instructor. Some instructors may prefer that auditing students observe class sessions without active participation, while others may allow questions or limited engagement in class discussions.

  • Instructors are not obligated to review, provide feedback on, or assign grades to work submitted by auditing students. The instructor determines the appropriate level of participation and engagement for auditing students in their class.

  • Faculty members retain the right to opt in or opt out of having their courses made available to Personal Enrichment students. Accordingly, Personal Enrichment students must conduct themselves with professionalism and respect at all times and adhere to any guidelines or expectations established by the instructor for the auditing experience.

  • Auditing students do not receive final grades or course credit.

Conduct

  • Any violation of these policies will result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the program.
