Beth Vallen, PhD
Full Professor, Marketing & Business Law
Research focus: consumer health, focusing on how consumers address health goals in the presence of various marketing stimuli related to these goals, such as nutrition labels, food menus and food naming conventions. Current work considers the impact of customer body size on the types of products recommended by salespeople and the role of information transparency in health care decision-making. Her research has been published in journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Consumer Psychology, the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, and Appetite; it has been cited in outlets including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and Psychology Today. Dr. Vallen serves on the editorial review board of a number of marketing journals and is an associate editor at the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing.

Pankaj Patel, PhD
Frank J. and Jane E. Ryan Endowed Chair, Strategy and Innovation
Professor, Strategy and Innovation
Research focus: entrepreneurship, governance and innovation. Dr. Patel has over 100 publications in management, entrepreneurship and psychology journals, including Management Science, Journal of Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, and Strategic Management Journal. He is on the editorial boards of top management and entrepreneurship journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Leadership Quarterly, and Small Business Economics, among others. He has received grants totaling $2.1 million from the US State Department, the Swedish Central Bank and Kamprad Family Foundation (IKEA), among others.

Shelly Howton, PhD
Chair and Professor, Finance & Real Estate
Research focus: both new and seasoned security issuances and the ways in which these issuances impact financial markets, firms and their stakeholders.
Current research examines a relatively new financial innovation, at-the-market stock issuances, and their use by real estate investment trusts. The research looks at the costs and benefits of using ATM programs and helps make REIT managers aware of the ways that they can most efficiently use ATMs in place of, and in concert with, SEOs to maximize capital raised.
Her research has appeared in a number of different journals including Real Estate Economics, Financial Management, Business Ethics Quarterly, Financial Review and Journal of Management.

Erasmus Kersting, PhD
Chair and Professor, Economics
Research focus: development and international economics, and macroeconomics. Current research projects explore how US politics determine the degree of US influence in international financial institutions, how foreign ownership affects wages of foreign and domestically owned firms in China, and the impact of World Bank lending on financial markets in recipient countries. Dr. Kersting’s research has been published in a range of academic journals, including the European Economic Review, the Journal of Development Economics, the Review of Economic Dynamics, the Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and the Canadian Journal of Economics. .
