Superhero to the Rescue

For Dr. Mayank Amin, PharmD,’15 MBA, one of the main missions that he has strived to achieve through his independent pharmacy is bringing back the care aspect into patient care. With the onset of the COVID pandemic the past year, Dr. Amin has had to balance combining health with happiness while also working extended hours to serve his community. Dr. Amin went from having his pharmacy open until 7 in the evening to being open past midnight most days. Closing the doors at midnight has made all the difference in helping more members of the community the pharmacy serves.

Something that Dr. Amin is well-known for in his community is thinking outside of the box. He recently wore a Superman costume while delivering vaccines to a vaccination clinic held by Skippack Pharmacy. Dr. Amin stated that the inspiration behind this initiative is to combine health and happiness. He initially was inspired to wear costumes to help little children have a positive experience with receiving vaccinations at the pharmacy, and to help remove fear from the process. Dr. Amin quickly realized that it wasn’t just children that had this positive reaction to the costumes, but adults as well.

Dr. Amin did not always plan to open his own business and pharmacy, but he always had a business mindset growing up. His parents owned their own businesses, and he often helped them. He views his pharmacy as a true epicenter for career activity, and has enjoyed building the pharmacy as a place for the community. While pursuing his MBA at VSB, Dr. Amin was influenced by the variety of entrepreneurs that came into the classroom setting to speak. This gave him insight into the behind-the-scenes process of running your own business, and he learned that there is a great deal of difficult work that many people on the outside don’t witness. Dr. Amin also had the opportunity to participate in an experiential learning program while at VSB, and traveled to Vietnam. Dr. Amin stated that when he was in Vietnam, he “saw things and appreciated more what he had. You see how people are happy to be making $1 an hour. I learned the aspect of how some people don’t need to be making millions of dollars to be happy, but as long as they are enjoying what they are doing, they can be just as excited as the CEO of a company.”

Just as VSB is oriented around community, Dr. Amin stated that his pharmacy serves a purpose to help the community as well as to be a place that embodies community involvement.
