Community Makes It Possible
When reflecting on her 40-year career in Financial Services and Information Technology, Beth Mazzeo '81 VSB has continously championed her belief with colleagues and students that it is possible to balance your personal life, build a successful business career, and succeed at both, all while enjoying the blessings associated with family.
"Villanova is grounded in community and giving. It has been a constant support system for myself and my family and a place I have come back to for guidance and advice throughout my career," said Mazzeo.
In 1986 Mazzeo joined Bloomberg LP, which was essentially a start-up at the time, as employee numbeer 38. Over the past 37 years, she was instrumental in building its business. Formally titled as its Chief Operating Officer, Mazzeo oversees the company's global support teams across more than 170 offices, providing end-to-end services to more than 40,000 client firms and over 20,000 Bloomberg employees. Her department of 1,700 people is responsible for the smooth operation of Bloomberg's global facilities, real estate, supply chain, customer support, technology infrastructure, data centers, and capital projects.
Beyond her impact at Bloomberg, Mazzeo continues to give back to Villanova community in significant ways. She previously served as a member of the VSB Dean's Advisory Council and in 2016, was awarded the prestigious Bartley Medallion, an annual award that recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers while also demonstrating extraordinary service to their communities and to VSB. In 2012, she was elected as a member of Villanova's Board of Trustees and, in January 2023, named its Chair.
Through it all, Mazzeo encourages women to maintain strong networks and community, both inside and outside of work. She notes, "Women are imperative for bringing diverse perspectives to the table. It is important that we continue to mentor and celebrate each other."
Today, after years of balancing the role of Senior Executive, wife, and mother of three adult children, she continues to take on new challenges. Being a successful woman with a rewarding career and beautiful family was inspirational to herself and many, and a lesson she hopes to share throughout the Villanova community and beyond.
