For Bob Austin, member of the Navy V-12 Program (left), this was a new kind of KP duty: “kitten patrol.” In summer 1945, Austin, who was temporarily studying at Villanova, and Apprentice Seaman Clyde Cobb ’49 COE (right) took charge of a young, male bobcat — a surprise delivery from James Halpin Jr. ’42 VSB. Though his life was short, Count Villan II (he was the school’s second feral mascot) inspired pride among Villanova Wildcats, including Jordan Olivar ’38 CLAS, football coach (center). He even met Bill the Goat at a game against Navy.
