Wildcats student-athletes have reached a new milestone in academic achievement. It was announced in May that, among all Division I schools, Villanova had the highest percentage of its sport programs (82 percent) earning NCAA Public Recognition Awards. The University set a program record, with 18 teams being recognized.

The awards are based on the Academic Progress Rate, a real-time measure of a sport program’s academic performance using points earned each semester by student-athletes for their academic standing and retention. Public recognition awards are given annually to the teams whose multiyear APR scores rank in the top 10 percent of their sport nationwide.

The latest APR data comprise the 2013–14 through 2016–17 academic years. Sixteen of Villanova’s sports programs had a perfect score.
