1960s

1964

A Philadelphia legend on and off the court, Walter “Wali” Jones ’64 VSB has been immortalized with a mural located in a playground in the West Philadelphia neighborhood where he spent his earliest days as a basketball player. Jones earned Philadelphia’s Big 5 Player of the Year honors in 1963 and 1964 while playing for Villanova under coach Jack Kraft and won an NBA championship in 1967 with the 76ers. Dubbed “Wali Wonder” during his hoop days, Jones has since become known as an activist, leader, educator and mentor He has spearheaded nationally recognized educational programs such as Shoot for the Stars, Read to Achieve and Champions 4 Champions, and he was awarded the President's Award from President Bill Clinton in 1999 for his work to end youth violence. During the unveiling of the mural, which was attended by some of his Wildcat teammates, Jones acknowledged his neighborhood roots, saying the image honors “my mother who had a garden in this neighborhood and my 106-year-old father who drove us all around to play ball.”

1965

Herbert J. Davis, PhD, ’65 VSB, professor of Strategic Management and International Affairs at George Washington University, received a Fulbright Specialist Program award to conduct research at Joao Saldanha University in Timor-Leste in Southeast Asia from July through August 2023.

1968

Richard Parsons, PhD, ’68 CLAS , a psychologist and professor of counselor education, retired after 45 years of clinical practice and graduate school teaching. Parsons received professor emeritus status from West Chester University in December 2022.  

1970s

1971

Terrence Bronson ’71 CLAS, a retired district judge who continually serves as a "visiting" judge in various courts in Southeast Michigan, was named to the Michigan Military Appeals Tribunal by the governor.

1973

Anthony M. Amoscato, Esq., ’73 VSB earned a Master of Laws from Pepperdine University Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution in December 2022.  

Grace (Redheffer) Bubulka, RN, MSN, ’73 FCN published a teen novel, titled Heartstrings, her second book following the nonfiction, Beyond This Reality: A Personal Account of the Near Death Experience.

1976

Terence Harris ’76 CLAS, ’77 CLAS, ’93 MA wrote and published the book Christmas Is The Greatest Day! in February 2023. He also launched an online store, Shore & Country Prints, featuring prints, gifts and home products inspired by Southeastern Pennsylvania and the South Jersey Shore.

1977

Deborah M. Lerner ’77 CWSL, ’86 LLM was named a 2023 Super Lawyer for her work as an employee benefits attorney at Willig, Williams & Davidson. She was also selected by her peers for inclusion in the 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

1979

Marc Stephen Raspanti, Esq., ’79 VSB, partner at Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, presented at the Federal Bar Association’s "The False Claims Act Today" discussion series in May. He was also appointed to sit on Law360’s 2023 Health Care Editorial Advisory Board and has been recognized by Super Lawyers on both their 2023 “Top 100” in Pennsylvania and “Top 100” in Philadelphia lists. Raspanti has been ranked as a Band 1 lawyer, the highest available ranking, by Chambers USA in white-collar crime and government investigations.  

1980s

1982

William Gorman ’82 CLAS presented a paper in July at the Oxford Educational Research Forum at St. Hillsdale College of Oxford University in Oxford, England. The paper, titled "Economic Funding of Public Education and the Achievement Debate," looked at the connection between economic expenditure and achievement results.

1985

Laura (Lento) Gaffney ’85 VSB was named chief executive officer of The Arc of Cape May County, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to serving the needs of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities..

Daniel T. Gresh ’85 CLAS was appointed as chairman and chief administrative appeals judge of the US Department of Labor’s Benefits Review Board. One of his duties as chairman is to serve as a supervisor for Amanda M. Fallon ’93 CLAS, who serves as the ombuds for the US Department of Labor's Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program.

James J. Kelly III ’85 CLAS, ’06 MPA was promoted to deputy commissioner of Patrol Operations, Philadelphia Police Department. This command oversees six patrol divisions, 21 police districts, the community affairs bureau and the night command bureau.

Michael Murtaugh Jr. ’85 VSB was named director of Work Acquisition at Clark Construction in McLean, Va..

Catherine Healy-Sharbaugh ’85 FCN, ’15 DNP was appointed dean of Nursing at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale, N.Y.

1987

Brian E. Curtis, Esq., ’87 VSB, general counsel at Colliers Engineering & Design, a national multidiscipline engineering and architectural design firm, received the NJBIZ Leaders in Law Award.

Ann Marie Schiavoni ’87 CLAS, ’93 BS was elected to the office of first vice president of the Hamilton Township Education Association in Hamilton Township, N.J. Schiavoni has been employed by the Hamilton Township School District as a secondary school counselor and is the department chairperson at Nottingham High School.

Gina M. (DeSantis) Wilson ’87 MS, a holistic executive coach and consultant as well as founder and principal of System Strategies Consulting and Coaching in Hockessin, Del., published her second book, Fearless First Year: A Student Guide for College Transition, Success, and Well-Being. In the book, she brings evidence-based coaching techniques for self-improvement and well-being to those without access to professional coaching.

William D. Wright, Esq., ’87 CLAS has been appointed to serve as law firm Fisher Phillips’ first head of Global Strategies, a new position that is critical to the success of the firm’s overall international operations.

1988

Pamela Coyle Brecht, Esq., ’88 VSB and Marc Stephen Raspanti, Esq., ’79 VSB, partners at Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, wrote the article “Laboratory Fraud: What Was Old is New Again,” published in Compliance Today, a publication of the Health Care Compliance Association.

Joseph T. Sixeas ’88 CLAS is enjoying retirement with his wife in Virginia following a career as a national security policy adviser to several US senators.

1990s

1991

Cyrillene “C.C.” Clark, PhD, ’91 MS has been elected chair of the Board of Trustees for Goodwin Living, a not-for-profit, faith-based senior living and healthcare services organization that serves older adults throughout the National Capital Region.

1992

Marie Ivanov ’92 VSB was nominated to the role of communications chair for the board of (ISC)2 New Jersey Chapter, a nonprofit organization that specializes in training and certifications for cybersecurity professionals.

Sheila FitzPatrick Taney ’92 FCN, ’96 MSN received her school nurse certification from Rutgers University-Camden in December. She works as a school nurse in New Jersey.

1994

Laura Wells Dover ’94 MA, owner of Dover Insulation in Marion, N.C., has been elected as president of the National Insulation Association for the 2023-2024 term. She is the first female contractor to hold this position.

1997

Matt Bradford ’97 CLAS, ’02 CWSL, who has served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives since 2009, was elected as majority leader of the Democratic Caucus in February.

The NFL has named Christine Dorfler ’97 VSB as its new Chief Financial Officer. The former Division I Women’s Lacrosse player and US Army veteran was hired as CFO of the most profitable sports league in the world. Dorfler, who reports to Commissioner Roger Goodell, previously spent more than 20 years with NBCUniversal most recently as CFO of NBC Sports. Throughout her career, she has mentored veterans transitioning into the civilian workforce and working parents balancing work and family life.. Dorfler, who now serves on the University’s Board of Trustees, says her time at Villanova “established a lasting foundation of always thinking about giving back and creating positive change in everything that I do.”

Eric Meyer, PhD, ’97 CLAS was named the inaugural chair of the Department of Counseling and Behavioral Health at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to being an educator and a licensed clinician, his research focuses on improving psychological treatments for post-traumatic stress, substance use disorders and traumatic brain injury. His work focuses primarily on military veterans and emergency responders. Most recently, he was funded by the US Department of Defense to develop and test a training intervention to prevent post-traumatic stress disorder in soldiers.

Benjamin V. Sanchez, Esq., ’97 VSB was elected to a third term as state representative for the 153rd Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and currently sits on the Appropriations, Health, Local Government and State Government committees.

1998

Kathleen Bronson-Dussan, MD, ’98 FCN has been named director of Woman's Health at Veterans Administration Hospital, University of Michigan Health System.

Saverio Perugini, PhD, ’98 CLAS , a professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Ave Maria University, published a book on computer languages, titled Programming Languages: Concepts and Implementation, with the publisher Jones & Bartlett Learning.

2000s

2001

Joseph Genovesi ’01 VSB was featured in the Philadelphia Business Journal’s “People on the Move” section. He has served as the CEO of Balanced Bridge Funding, a specialty finance company, since 2018, and he sits on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region.

2004

A well-deserved honor was bestowed upon Vice Provost for Finance and Administration Timothy Hoffman ’04 VSB, ’06 MBA when he accepted the 2023 Steve Merritt Award. The honor recognizes Hoffman for his commitment to living out the Villanova virtues of Veritas, Unitas, Caritas in support of students in the College of Professional Studies. “Tim is an ardent supporter of our initiatives, which enable us to serve our students in new and exciting ways,” says CPS Dean Christine Palus, PhD. “We are so incredibly appreciative of all he does to help us achieve our mission and goals.”

First given in 2016, this award is presented annually to a Villanovan in memory of Stephen Merritt ’78 CLAS, who was the University’s beloved and influential dean of Enrollment Management at the time of his death in 2015.

2006

Joanna McClinton ’06 CWSL made history in February, becoming the first woman and second Black person to ever serve as speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. This is the second time a Villanova alum has held this high-ranking office—the first being Matthew J. Ryan ’54 VSB, ’59 CWSL, who served from 1981 to 1983 and again from 1995 until his death in 2003.

Throughout her career, McClinton has devoted herself to public service in her work as a public defender, a legislator and an ordained minister. She has also made giving back to her alma mater a priority, serving on the advisory board for the Villanova Law Institute to Address Commercial Sexual Exploitation, speaking on panels at the Law School, hosting Villanova Law interns, speaking in a professional development class, Public Policy Pathways, and acting as a mentor for the Minority Alumni Society. For her many achievements and contributions, McClinton was recognized with the Villanova Law Alumni Service Award in April 2022.

Regina (Cappio) Wilson ’06 CLAS and Todd Wilson ’06 CLAS celebrated the birth of their third child, Marcus Philip, on April 29, 2022.

2007

Marie (Hobson) Clarke, Esq., ’07 CLAS was appointed president of the Envelope Manufacturers Association, the world’s largest association devoted to the envelope manufacturing and paper-based communications industry.

Vaughan Cutillo ’07 CLAS, founder of Montauk Brewing Company in Montauk, N.Y., has expanded his craft brewing company into the Philadelphia market and surrounding areas.

2008

Erin P. Diamond ’08 CLAS and Tucker Schenk ’09 VSB welcomed their second child, a daughter named Sloane Virginia Schenk, on Sept. 30, 2022.

Joanna (McVey) Sockoloskie ’08 COE was awarded the Marine Corps Aviation Association John Glenn Squadron’s 2022 Thomas E. Laux Acquisition Civilian of the Year award.

2009

Taylor Mckenna ’09 CLAS and Connor Esposito ’10 VSB welcomed a daughter, Georgie Grace, on April 23, 2023.

Laura (Hokenson) Powell ’10 CLAS, ’11 MA and John Powell ’10 CLAS welcomed their daughter, Rhiannon, in May.

2011

Kelly (Turezyn) DaPonte ’11 CLAS and Ryan DaPonte ’11 COE  welcomed a second son, William James, on June 26, 2023.

2012

Jacqueline Beatty ’12 MA, assistant professor of History in the Department of History and Political Science at York College of Pennsylvania, authored the book In Dependence: Women and the Patriarchal State in Revolutionary America., which examines the role of the American Revolution in the everyday lives of women.

2014

Victoria Carbone ’14 CLAS married Geoffrey Boylston, son of Bruce Boylston ’79 VSB and Mary Foti Boylston ’80 FCN on June 10, 2023.

2015

It has been a life-changing year for Brian Moscioni ’15 COE (second from left), who chose to leave his job at Goldman Sachs after traveling to Ukraine three times in the past 16 months as a humanitarian volunteer. “I’ve always been guided by a commitment to service,” says Moscioni, who was enrolled in the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps while studying Mechanical Engineering at Villanova. “Being in Ukraine has enhanced my perspective on how to make an impact in the world.” For his next chapter, the former Naval aviator plans to continue to help Ukraine by fundraising for Project Konstantin, a nonprofit he served as a volunteer this past summer. "It's a medevac coalition working on the front lines to help wounded soldiers," explains Moscioni. "They are the true meaning of heroes." He will also be pursuing graduate studies in public policy, administration, conflict, peace and security.

2016

2017

Robert J. Hamer ’17 MS has accepted an appointment to the Academic Advisory Board for the Engineering Leadership Program at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.

John C. Kraus ’17 CLAS joined the Institute for Defense Analyses as a research associate in the Strategy, Forces and Resources Division of IDA’s Systems and Analyses Center.

2018

Lacy Loar-Gruenler ’18 CLAS earned a master's degree in Creative Writing and Literature from Harvard University in March 2023.

2019

Kofi Asante Asamoah ’19 CLAS and Madhat Fares ’19 COE, ’21 MS underwent a competitive selection process to be chosen as two of 25 official alumni ambassadors for the US State Department’s Gilman International Scholarship for 2022-2023. On July 20, 2022, they had the opportunity to represent the prestigious scholarship program on Capitol Hill, garnering senatorial support for increased funding of the FY23 House State and Foreign Ops bill. In April 2023, Asamoah was invited back to Capitol Hill with the Institute of International Education to advocate for the continued support of both the Gilman and Fulbright international scholarship programs.

Andrew K. McKeough ’19 CLAS was appointed director of Corporate Relations for the Carley's Angels Foundation, a charitable organization based in Toronto, Canada, working to improve cancer care.

Minal Patel ’19 CLAS graduated from Brooklyn Law School and will be starting as a first-year associate at DLA Piper in their corporate practice group this fall.

2020s

Timothy Klimpl ’20 CWSL joined the law firm of Shipman and Goodwin as counsel in the Tax and Employee Benefits Practice Group, in which he will play a key role in merger and acquisition transactions across the firm and advise employers on equity and incentive compensation.

2021

David Weeks ’21 MPA was elected to the Vermont State Senate, assuming office on Jan. 4, 2023.
