UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS IN CHEMISTRY

The Department of Chemistry offers undergraduate degree programs in the fields of chemistry and biochemistry as well as an option to pursue a 5-year BS/MS.

Chemistry faculty are teacher-scholars, who not only engage students in the classroom and instructional lab, but also actively include them in research. As experts in their fields, faculty are using current methods and instrumentation and sharing their experiences with students.

Faculty are teachers, mentors and co-investigators—allowing students to gain useful experiences using modern research instrumentation and methods in the practice of science.

WHY CHEMISTRY?

Students pursuing a Chemistry degree take courses specifically designed for them. These classes are small and are not part of the curriculum for other science majors—allowing students to have more interaction with their professors. Supportive faculty encourage students to pursue their interests in chemistry and beyond.  Being near Philadelphia gives student access to other institutions and resources to develop their interests and prepare for their future.

Meet our faculty.

Undergraduate research opportunities at Villanova give students the ability to work in all fields of chemistry year-round. Students gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art instrumentation such as the X-ray diffractometer and mass spectrometers.

Students learn about career options and trajectories as part of the curriculum, particularly in the Professional Development Seminar, where students hear from chemists and alumni about their jobs and the role of chemistry.

Chemistry students are recruited by top chemical and pharmaceutical companies and accepted into doctoral programs, medical school and combined medical and doctoral programs. Students with chemistry or biochemistry training are also in demand in education, medicine, allied health, law and other areas.
