As St. Augustine taught us, before we preach, we must open our ears and hearts. So I’m going to be doing a lot of listening.

The Rev. Robert Hagan, OSA, JD, ’87 CLAS

As the new prior provincial of the Augustinian Province of St. Thomas of Villanova, the Rev. Robert Hagan, OSA, JD, ’87 CLAS is the major superior of the nearly 150 Augustinians who serve the province, living in more than 20 communities in the US and Japan.

But for Father Rob, as he’s widely known, it’s another opportunity for servant leadership. He’s spent his entire career carefully listening and providing good counsel—in his 19 years as senior associate athletic director at Villanova and team chaplain for the Football and Men’s Basketball teams and in his former vocation as an attorney.

True to his word, Father Rob has committed the first year of his appointment to a listening tour of the province. He has already traveled hundreds of miles to meet individually and collectively with the friars to hear firsthand about the unique opportunities and challenges in their communities since his official installation as Prior Provincial in June 2022.
