Unit Updates, January 2019

Welcome to the UNIT Updates webpage where UNIT will display monthly updates on services and solutions, projects, new UNIT initiatives and relevant UNIT information for the Villanova Community.  Please let us know if you have any comments or ideas for future issues.

University Website Redesign

University Communications and Marketing and UNIT continue to focus on the University Website Redesign project.  The overarching goals are to create a visually compelling experience, position Villanova as a top national university, and improve and streamline our content and navigation.  Through this, over 55 new pages were launched featuring these enhancements and redesigns.  These pages included school/college homepages, an Academic Program Explorer, new administrative area home pages (Student Life, Advancement, Mission and Ministry, and others), and a new information architecture for each school and college featuring a consistent navigation experience across each.

Workday Project Update

The Workday project timeline has been revised and the implementation will no longer take place on July 1, 2019. More information regarding this change can be found on the Workday website at workday.villanova.edu. Please contact workdayhelp@villanova.edu with any questions.

Introducing 'Account Protection' Services

UNIT is now offering Duo, two-factor authentication, in order to increase your account protection by verifying that the person trying to access your account is actually you. Duo's self-enrollment process makes it easy to register your phone or tablet and install the application on your device. To begin the enrollment process, please see the Duo Self-Enroll web page in the "More Info" Link or click HERE for more information.

New vDesktop--Coming Soon!

Coming this Summer – a rebuilt vDesktop!  In order to stay current with best practices, security, and to provide the best user experience possible, we are happy to announce a new version of vDesktop.  Faster logins, more powerful sessions, and a fully updated software catalog await the University!  The new environment will be available starting in the public computer labs. Interested in being a test user?  Contact the Villanova Help Desk/support@villanova.edu and ask to be a pilot user for the new vDesktop!

IT Security: Spring Clean Up

Spring-cleaning time is here, and time to check for updates, eliminate useless software and files, and get your home computer organized.  Here are some IT tips:

  • Organize Your Files:  Every file should have a proper place. Create new folders and properly name your files, and delete what you do not need. Make sure private information is secure and where it needs to be.
  • Update Applications and Programs:  Delete unused applications and programs. Check your anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware software for updates.
  • Reset important passwords: No matter how strong and perfect your Amazon and Facebook passwords are, it is time for a change. This includes your computer account’s password, social media passwords, online banking and PayPal password.
  • Run Computer Utilities:  Whether you have a Windows or Mac computer, running your computer’s built-in utilities is easy.

Remember, these tips can also be used for your smart phone and tablet!
