Blackboard Upgrade 12/26-12/27

Beginning on December 26th at 6:30AM/EST, Blackboard will be unavailable due to a 36 hour system upgrade. While the system will be available periodically during the upgrade maintenance, please be advised that Villanova staff will be making additional changes to the system until 6:30PM/EST on December 27th. We advise that no changes be made by faculty or students during this time.

In compliance with updated University policies regarding data retention, CIT will archive old courses from Bb Learn.  Additionally, the license for storage in Bb is finite and requires us to purge courses from the system to stay within our limit.  All courses in the following terms to be archived: Spring14, Summer14, Fall14.  These courses will be stored offline for a period of five years. The policy for Blackboard courses can be found here.  If you have any questions, please email your Learn coordinator or email CIT.

Faculty Macbook Encryption Available

As part of Villanova's IT Security and Information Protection Strategy, the University has invested in and maintained, a ‘layered’ security approach that includes data protection.  Data Protection (Encryption) is the process of safeguarding important information on devices from theft and/or data loss and already installed on issued laptops.  Laptop Encryption Benefits are below:

  1. Peace of mind:  Should your computer get lost or stolen, you will have the peace of mind knowing that your data is secure, unreadable and protected against unauthorized access.
  2. Identity Theft Prevention:  Identity theft remains one of the highest priorities today.  Encrypting your laptop ensures that your identity is protected in the event that it is lost or stolen.
  3. Unauthorized Access Protection:  Keep your data confidential and away from prying eyes while the computer is still within your ownership - the pre-boot password authentication that encryption provides is the most robust method known of protecting your data from unauthorized access.
