IT Security: Ransomware

The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) shows “ransomware” continues to spread, and is infecting devices globally.  Ransomware works when a person clicks on an infected advertisement, email, or attachment, or visits an infected website.

When a person’s device is infected with ransomware, their files usually become encrypted.  In most cases, only when a “ransom” fee is paid, will they regain full access.  Ransomware is an especially insidious type of malware the University urges you to be aware of and better understand.

For more information, please visit a recently released article by the FBI on ransomware, available at: https://www.us-cert.gov/ncas/current-activity/2016/04/29/FBI-Releases-Article-Ransomware
