Gateway - VPN

The Villanova Secure Gateway is a service that provides University faculty and staff secure remote access to Villanova network resources from anywhere on the Internet.  Please note Duo Multifactor Authentication is required to use the Villanova Gateway.

Accessing the Gateway

Faculty, Staff, and Students url:  https://gateway7.villanova.edu

Vendor and Legacy connection url: https://gateway.villanova.edu

Using VDesktop to remote in: You will need the ip address of the work computer you want to remote in to on campus.

From your home computer (PC):

  • Open a browser and go to vdesktop.villanova.edu
  • Log in to vDesktop using your LDAP credentials
  • You will be prompted for a Duo Push, verify Duo Push
  • Select vDesktop session and open
  • Once in vDesktop windows session, go to Start menu and select “Remote Desktop Connection”
  • Enter your work computer’s IP Address
  • Log into to work with your LDAP credentials

From your home computer (MAC):

  • Open a browser and go to vdesktop.villanova.edu
  • Log in to vDesktop using your LDAP credentials
  • You will be prompted for a Duo Push, verify Duo Push
  • Select vDesktop session and open
  • Citrix Receiver will launch, open the session to access Vdesktop
  • Once in vDesktop windows session, go to start menu and select “Remote Desktop Connection”
  • Enter your work computer’s IP Address
  • Log into to work computer with your LDAP credentials

To access the Virtual Private Network (VPN) from off campus, connect to the Internet through your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and use the Internet Explorer browser:

  • In your web browser,
  1. Faculty, Staff, and Students please go to https://gateway7.villanova.edu/
  2. Vendor and Legacy Connections please go to https://gateway.villanova.edu/
  • Once you click sign-in, you will be prompted with a second screen that will allow you to select “Send me a Push”, “Phone Call” or "SMS Passcode”.
  • Experience if you selected the “Send me a Push” option:
    • You will be prompted on your smart phone with a log in request to approve.
    • Once you approve the request, you will automatically be logged into the gateway.
  • Experience if you selected the “Phone Call” option:
    • Your cell phone will ring
    • Once answered, you will hear a recorded message asking you to "hit any key"
    • Once you tap a key on your phone, you will be automatically logged into the gateway
  • Experience if you clicked on the "SMS Passcode" option:
    • A text will be sent to your cell phone with the passcode
    • You will need to type that passcode in the passcode box provided in your web browser and click “Submit”, you will be automatically logged into the gateway.
  • Under the last section labeled Client Application Sessions, click Start for Pulse Secure and install Pulse
