Using Office 365
Getting Started:
Get Familiar with Your New Email!
Microsoft Exchange Online is Microsoft's email and calendaring service. You can access it via the Outlook Web App (OWA) online, via the Outlook client/app for Windows/Mac/iOS/Android, or third-party email clients (such as Mac Mail). While Outlook is different than Gmail (for example, the use of mail folders instead of labels), the basics of reading, sending, and receiving emails are very similar to what you are used to.
UNIT recommends that you access your Outlook email account directly on the web by visiting https://outlook.office.com or using the Outlook client installed on your favorite device(s).

How To Use OneDrive and Office Online
Microsoft Office 365 is a suite of services and tools for email and collaboration; including the Office apps you're familiar with, like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. You also get online storage via OneDrive for Business, and cloud-connected features that let you collaborate on files in real time. This will be a similar experience to working in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc).
UNIT recommends that you access Microsoft products on the web by visiting https://portal.office.com.
Within the Office 365 Portal, you can
- Access all the Office products at your disposal, from your Outlook email to your OneDrive to Word/Excel/PowerPoint Online (Microsoft's version of Google Docs/Sheets/Slides)
- View all of the files in your Microsoft cloud, including Recent documents, documents that have been shared with you, and even documents you have marked as Favorites
- Conduct a global search of your entire Microsoft cloud environment. Using the Search bar at the top of the page, you can search for people, documents, keywords within documents, and more.

How To Migrate Your Content From Google
Google Takeout is a free tool that allows users to export data from their Google account to a downloadable archive file. Students can use Google Takeout to assist them in creating an offline backup of their Google account ahead of the migration, transfer some/all of their content to their Villanova-provided Office 365 account, or transfer some/all of their content into their personally-owned Google Workspace account.
Detailed instructions on how to use Google Takeout can be found at: Google Takeout Instructions.
If you are ready to use Google Takeout today to generate a backup, you can do so by visiting https://takeout.google.com.
Remember, even though your email will be migrated out of Google in January, your ability to access your Google Workspace (Google Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.) will only be changed to read-only... not removed. Whenever you're ready - before March 10, 2023 - you will be able to use Google Takeout to transfer files and other data from your current Villanova Google Workspace account.
You can use Google Takeout to transfer your data in a variety of ways. For example, you can choose an email address that Google will use to send you a link to download all of your chosen data, or you can have Google export your data to the tool of your choice.
