Energy-from-waste is a sustainable waste disposal solution that is environmentally superior to landlls. It is a source of clean energy that reduces overall greenhouse gas emissions and is considered renewable under many state and federal laws. Energy-from-waste projects also lower the risk of groundwater contamination and conserve land.
Villanova University partners with Covanta, our local energy-from-waste facility. All trash is sent to Covanta knowing that it will generate power and will never go into a landll.
Why EFW is superior to landfilling
Over 250 million tons of trash is buried each year in U.S. landfills. Unfortunately, many people haven’t taken the time to understand the full scope of negative effects of putting that much trash in landfills - until now. Read and share this infographic which underscores the harmful effects of landfilling and encourages practicing the four R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle and recover energy-from-waste) as a sustainable alternative.
