Vary Your Proteins

Protein is one of the main food groups in any healthy diet. However, many people underestimate the importance of varying their sources of protein. Proteins are built up of 20 different amino acids, 9 of which are essential. This means the body cannot make these 9 amino acids itself, so you need to consume them in your diet.

Not all proteins contain all of the same amino acids, so it is important to eat a wide variety of foods to be sure that you are getting everything your body needs. Also, different protein sources provide different vitamins and minerals. Varying your proteins allows you to consume a wide variety of these vitamins and minerals that can be obtained from protein foods.

A few good sources of protein include beans, nuts, nut butters, poultry, lean meats, eggs, peas, seeds, and soy containing foods like tofu.
