Setting a Collaborative Path
The start of a new academic year has always been an exciting time for me – a time seasoned with thoughts of new beginnings, fresh faces and different perspectives as a new cadre of undergraduate and graduate students joins our community. Seeing the excitement of students as they embark on a different chapter of their lives always brings a sense of enthusiasm to this time and may even add an extra spring to my step. This new academic year is certainly no different – although this time the spring in my step is influenced by a different sense of new beginnings as I transition to the role of Associate Vice Provost for Research.
This is an exciting time to be a scholar at Villanova University, and an equally exciting time to serve as an advocate for scholarship on our campus. First and foremost, I will advocate for faculty members and students and their scholarly pursuits. Villanova is blessed with vibrant, energetic, and experienced faculty who engage both undergraduate and graduate students in scholarship in the truest form of the teacher-scholar model that is crucial to the mission of Villanova. I want to listen and learn from you as we work together to promote and enhance the culture of scholarship on our campus.
Throughout the coming academic year I plan to consult with a variety of constituencies to identify our current strengths and challenges, and determine what Villanova research can and should be in the future. Collaborations will occur in a manner that is inclusive, transparent, and always with a spirit of mutual respect for the diversity of ideas that come forth from a passionate scholarly university community. I look forward to being a tireless, impassioned advocate for the faculty and students within the Villanova community, and an enthusiastic, energetic representative of Villanova scholarship to outside entities.
