Any students pursuing undergraduate research may apply for funding to travel to present or conduct research through two distinct grant opportunities:
Conference Travel Grant
The Villanova Undergraduate Research Advisory Board grants up to $500 to support travel, lodging, meals, and registration fees for undergraduate researchers who will present their research at conferences. Previously, students have presented posters and facilitated talks at a variety of conferences across academic disciplines, including but not limited to:
- Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society
- Soil Ecology Conference
- Foundations Of Systems Biology in Engineering
- American Education Research Association
- Yeast Genetics and Molecular Biology Meeting
- Wilson Ornithological Society
Both the student and the research mentor must submit the Research Conference Travel Request Forms shown below. When completing the form, please be sure to provide your abstract, a budget, receipts for reservations or registration, and a brief explanation of why you would like to participate in the conference.
Funding will not be provided for students who will not be presenting research at a conference. Funding may be provided to graduating seniors in the summer and fall following graduation provided that the requestor completed the research as an undergraduate.
Research and Travel Grant
The Villanova Undergraduate Research Advisory Board assesses proposals to provide support for established research programs such as DAAD-RISE and IAESTE. This grant is intended to support undergraduate students engaging in established programs in which undergraduate research is the focus. This grant is restricted to undergraduates; students who have graduated are ineligible.
Students seeking to conduct an independent research project should apply for a Villanova Undergraduate Research Fellows (VURF) Grant.
To apply for a CRF Research and Travel Grant, students must submit a resume in addition to a one-page statement of grant purpose detailing his or her interest in the program, how the program informs the student’s goals, and a statement that he or she will assist in CRF outreach to share the experience with other Villanova students. Students must also include a detailed budget of anticipated expenses. Please submit all Research and Travel Grant applications to Catherine Stecyk.
For Summer 2018, all Research and Travel Grant applications are due by Monday, April 2, 2018. Decisions will be communicated no later than May 1.
VURF funding is contingent upon the student’s completion of the Responsible Conduct of Research training.
