You can request a tutor by logging into your myNova account. In your student dashboard you will see a link that says "Grades First." The link will redirect you to GradesFirst, where you will see a list of your classes. Next to your classes are links that read "Schedule a Tutor Appointment." You can choose between a variety of dates, locations, and times by altering the calendar. It is mandated that you schedule a tutor appointment with 48 hours notice.
Writing tutors are available in the Norton Family Theater Team Meeting Room, Sunday-Thursday evenings from 7-10 pm. Student-athletes do not need to sign-up for an appointment as they are on a walk-in basis.
The study hall facility is open Sunday-Thursday from 4pm-10pm. The study hall facility is closed on Friday and Saturday.
If you are a freshman student-athlete, you are required to complete 4 hours of study hall a week. If you are an upperclassman student athlete with a GPA of 2.5 or below, you are required to complete 4 hours of study hall a week.
The Office of Academic Support for Athletics has Varsity Excuse Forms that students are to fill out when missing class due to a competition. Forms must be filled out a week prior to the missed class date. Varsity Excuse Forms are to be submitted to professors before the student-athlete misses the class.
All incoming freshmen student-athletes are assigned a mentor their freshman year. There will be an introductory mentoring meeting at the start of school where you will have an opportunity to meet your mentor for the first time. At the introductory meeting you are to sign up for a meeting time with your mentor. Your mentors information will also be available in a student-athlete planner you will receive in August.
Mentors and mentees are required to meet once a week.
If you have a question about your schedule, please come to the Office of Academic Support located in the Andrew J. Talley Athletic Center and speak with your athletic academic advisor. The Office of Academic Support staff will be able to help you with scheduling, adding or dropping a course, withdrawing from a course, requesting a tutor and much more. NOTE: Do not drop a course without consulting an advisor in the Office of Academic Support.
