Past site visits included Lenovo, Thomson Reuters, KPMG, Apple, Boeing, Target, Lowes, GE, Penn Engineering, Boehringer Ingelheim, etc. While in Shanghai, students will visit Yuyuan Garden, attend an acrobatic show and take a Huangpu River cruise.
Students will also visit Suzhou, known as the "the Venice of China." Known not only for its canals and gardens, Suzhou is also known for its manufacturing industry as well as China's foremost destination for foreign investment. This portion will include a company visit, visits to cultural landmarks.
While in Beijing, students will visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Tianan-men Square, and the Summer Palace. Company visits will also be included in the Beijing portion of the program.
Students will travel predominantly by taxi in Shanghai and Beijing. Taxis are convenient and inexpensive, $3-$5 will get you to most places within cities. Most students can communicate in English, however, English is not widely spoken in China, though you will will find that most people are extremely friendly and willing to help (even if they don’t understand English well). Former program participants have encountered few problems.
It is recommended that all students have an up-to-date tetanus booster and the hepatitis A series of 2 shots, as well as the hepatitis B series. Please contact your personal physician to make arrangements and verify your immunization history.
