A Letter from the President

September 2017

Dear Members of the Villanova Community:

Our present strategic plan, Igniting the Heart, Inspiring the Mind, Illuminating the Spirit, has guided Villanova to greater national recognition, reclassification to a doctoral research university, and an increase in higher achieving students. The University has attracted outstanding, young faculty from prestigious graduate programs, as well as several internationally renowned teacher-scholars. The awareness and commitment to our Augustinian lineage is stronger than ever before and the incredible success of the Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change has provided the financial resources and facilities to help achieve our vision.

Today, Villanova stands among globally recognized institutions and our peers are some of the most elite private and Catholic schools in the nation. While there is much to be proud of as a result of our current strategic plan, we must continue to move forward in order to, in the words of St. Augustine, “become what we are not yet.” In July of 2017, we launched a new strategic planning process to guide Villanova as is navigates the next decade. I have asked Provost Maggitti to facilitate the process on behalf of the University, and am incredibly grateful for his leadership in this important initiative.

The goal of this process is to embrace and protect our mission in the whirlwind of an ever-changing higher education marketplace. We need to build upon Villanova’s traditional strengths and create new paths and programs that are informed by the words on our University seal: a heart ignited by knowledge. We will continue to have our Augustinian values, emphasis on teaching and learning and our focus on community to shape our University. These pieces of our identity will shape each part of our next strategic plan.

As we move through this new planning process, I encourage our entire University community to become engaged and take part. There will be numerous opportunities for you to participate in the coming months. Please continue to visit this website for information about upcoming session and news about our progress.

As always, thank you for all you do on behalf of Villanova.
