Day of Understanding at Villanova University: Friday, December 7

Dear Members of the Villanova Community,

On Friday, December 7, Villanova University will join organizations and universities throughout the United States in a Day of Understanding. The day is sponsored by CEO ACT!ON for Diversity and Inclusion. 

Last year, I joined more than 500 other Presidents and CEOs supporting the efforts of this organization to cultivate greater awareness and empathy across our communities. This year, we are called together to engage in more conversations and reflection about our hidden biases.

Discussion and dialogue sessions will be set up around our campus this Friday, December 7, for the Day of Understanding. It is a day dedicated to exploring important topics that too often breed mistrust and misunderstanding. It is always worthwhile to take time for personal reflection, especially as we begin the holiday season. 

I know this is a busy time of year, but we must always make time to look after the needs of community. I encourage you to attend a session and to bring your friends or colleagues. The importance of taking the time to have important conversations with one another cannot be underestimated.

There are four conversations for your convenience:

  • Villanova School of Business will host a conversation in Bartley 1063
    Time: 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

Hosts: Claire Bruno, Manuel Nunez, Terrill Drake and AmyLynn Flood (PwC)

  • College of Liberal Arts & Sciences will host a conversation in the Fedigan Room of
    St. Augustine Center
    Time: 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Hosts: Ed Fierros and Reema Patel (PwC)

  • Global and Interdisciplinary Studies and Communication will host a conversation in Garey Commons (first floor outside of the Black Box Theater)
    Time: 12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Hosts: Chiji Akoma, Maghan Keita, Hezekiah Lewis and Megan Townsend (PwC)

  • Office of Intercultural Affairs and Student Involvement will host a conversation in the Connelly Center Cinema

Time: 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Hosts: Eloise Berry, JJ Brown and Jennifer Mantini (PwC)

Refreshments will be served at all of the conversation locations. I hope you will be able to take part in one or more of the sessions.
