Care of Pediatric Patient with Tracheostomy

Caring for children with tracheostomies can be challenging. Villanova University Continuing Education Program is hosting a two-day program designed to meet the learning needs of nurses (RN and LPN) caring for pediatric patients in the home with a tracheostomy. This interactive two day class is the perfect blend of lecture, discussion and skills demonstration and review. This dynamic teaching approach fosters learning for all participates in the state of the art Simulation Center.

Review pediatric anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system and discuss the most common respiratory conditions of the pediatric patient that require a tracheostomy. All participants will demonstrate daily tracheostomy care on a pediatric task trainer; suctioning, skin care and tracheostomy tube change. The program will conclude with a review of emergency airway management and common complications experienced in the home.

Villanova University College of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. As such, this course carries contact hours of 11.0 for the entire two-day program.

The program is two days from 9 am-4 pm each day.
