VILLANOVA, Pa.—Villanova University announced today that its historic comprehensive capital campaign, “For the Greater Great: The Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change,” has reached $750 million in gifts and pledges. The University reached its $600 million goal for the campaign in December 2016—18 months ahead of schedule. Villanova also announced that it has exceeded $107 million in gifts and pledges in the current fiscal year, marking the fifth consecutive fiscal year in which fundraising surpassed $100 million. The campaign is scheduled to close at the end of the University’s fiscal year on May 31, 2018.
“This campaign has redefined philanthropy at Villanova,” said Michael J. O’Neill, Senior Vice President for University Advancement. “With the unbridled support and enthusiasm of our Villanova community, we continue to break the mold as we approach the end of this historic campaign.”
The Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change is the most ambitious fundraising initiative in the University’s 176-year history. With more than 75,000 donors to date, the campaign is increasing student opportunities and financial aid, advancing the academic enterprise, transforming the campus environment and fortifying the University’s future.
The campaign’s progress has been bolstered by a series of landmark gifts, including a $50 million commitment from Kim and Jim ’81 Davis; a $25 million leadership gift from Charles Widger, Esq., ’73 CWSL, that led to the naming of the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law; and a $22.6 million commitment from William B. Finneran ’63, the largest-ever to Villanova Athletics. Two anonymous $20 million commitments are supporting the Performing Arts Center, a $60 million project that will be entirely donor-funded and broke ground in January. To date, Villanova has received unprecedented levels of six and seven-figure gifts, including 843 gifts of $100,000 and more and 120 gifts of $1 million or more.
Last September, Villanova set another record on 1842 Day, its first day of giving, when more than 5,500 donors contributed $6.6 million dollars in 1,842 minutes.
