VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova University’s ICE Institute—promoting innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship across campus—will host its annual, campus-wide Pitch Day event Monday, April 25, providing students from across the University’s schools and colleges the opportunity to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, while getting real-world experience in building an idea from the ground up.

Villanova’s 2016 Pitch Day will feature presentations from students participating in the seventh annual Villanova Student Entrepreneurship Competition (VSEC). During this competition, student entrepreneurs will present original ideas and prototypes to a panel of alumni and guest judges who are involved in business development, investments, marketing and technology. In addition to the $10,000 that will be awarded to student startups through VSEC, students will get invaluable feedback from mentors and advisors that can help the advance their ideas.

“Pitch Day is the culminating event for our innovators and entrepreneurs,” said II Luscri, Executive Director of the ICE Institute. “Having the opportunity take action on ideas is a major key in the entrepreneurial process, and that’s what the day is all about. Whether working to innovate in social ventures or create the next cutting edge mobile app, Villanovans across campus continue to find unique ways to ignite change.”

In addition to the VSEC, Pitch Day includes demos and presentations from students enrolled in multiple University classes including Mobile Applications Design, Introduction to Disability Studies, Public Administration, and more. Capping off the day is a Celebration of Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship at Villanova, which will take place in the Villanova Room in Connelly Center. Pitch Day also includes the announcement of Villanova’s annual Meyer Innovation and Creative Excellence (ICE) Awards winners. The ICE Awards were created and endowed by Patrick Meyer '74 VSB in honor of the Meyer family (Patrick '74, Edward '86, and C. Paul '30) to recognize a spirit of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship that enhances Villanova University. The Meyer ICE Award is given to a student in each of the University’s schools and colleges, as well as one faculty recipients.

The ICE Institute is an innovative driver of scholastic, educational, and professional development opportunities in the related areas of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship at Villanova University. The Institute has a multi-disciplinary and cross-college focus, seeking to advance the University's strategy by fostering cross-college learning and embedding entrepreneurial thinking more deeply in the Villanova culture. ICE strives to support traditional student-entrepreneurship and startups, but its broader mission is to serve as a symbol to the Villanova community and beyond of the university's commitment to nurture students so they stand out in the marketplace as creative and innovative thinkers. This year, the ICE Institute opened a new Idea Accelerator facility on campus, housed in Falvey Memorial Library. Some of the most innovative products and the most successful companies originated as ideas in a garage. So when the ICE Institute set out to create its new Idea Accelerator, incorporating the garage doors was a given. From garage doors and a tinkering lab to expert hours and entrepreneurs in residence, it’s all part of Villanova’s new Idea Accelerator. The entire space was created with idea generation in mind. The Idea Accelerator was designed—from the walls and chairs to the tools and technology—to promote the sharing of ideas within the Villanova community and a multidisciplinary approach to generating and advancing new ideas.
