VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova University’s Department of Communication will host a screening of ‘Theeb,’ a 2016 Academy Award nominated film for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year, on Wednesday, April 13 that will include a discussion via Skype with the film’s director and producer, Naji Abu Nowar. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Connelly Cinema of the Connelly Center and is free and open to the public.
‘Theeb,’ a Jordanian Arabic-language film, haswon 10 international awards, including the 2016 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, and, in addition to its Academy Award recognition, has received 13 other international film nominations. The film follows a young Bedouin boy who must survive in the Middle Eastern desert during World War I.
“Their success story as filmmakers is very much aligned with our objectives within the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies, creating a platform for filmmakers from the Middle East and North Africa to tell their stories through the medium of film,” said Nasser Chour, Instructor in the Department of Communication who specializes in Middle Eastern film and television. “This event serves as a great example for our students, especially those with emphasis on media production.”
