VILLANOVA, Pa. - Michael Tomczyk has been named Innovator in Residence at Villanova University’s Center for Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE Center). Tomczyk has joined Villanova to help enhance opportunities for innovation at Villanova. His activities will include program development, designing and hosting conferences and workshops, teaching courses and advising students.
“It is an honor to join Villanova’s innovation team,” Tomczyk said. “The ICE Center is building an exceptional ecosystem to foster innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship to support the University’s community of students, faculty, industry partners and alumni. Villanova University is consistently top-rated for academic excellence, and is a leader in many other areas including innovation studies.”
Tomczyk has spent most of his career working in the field of innovation. As a technology pioneer, he is best known for his role in the development and launch of the first home computers (at Commodore) in the 1980s. He was instrumental in the launch of such innovations as CT scanning, automated teller machines, the volunteer Army, classroom networks and numerous Internet applications.
Tomczyk speaks extensively on emerging technologies and their implications for the future. He is the author of a new book entitled NanoInnovation: What Every Manager Needs to Know, which explains what’s really happening in emerging areas of science and technology.
Before joining Villanova, Tomczyk was managing director of the Mack Institute for Innovation Management at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania
Tomczyk earned an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), a Master in Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor in Literature and Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in Vietnam.
