VILLANOVA, Pa. – Janette Herbers, PhD, Assistant Professor in Villanova University’s Department of Psychology, has been named a Visiting Scholar at People’s Emergency Center (PEC). PEC is a non-profit organization in West Philadelphia that provides comprehensive supportive services to homeless women and their children, works to revitalize the neighborhood, and advocates for social justice.
“The Visiting Scholar program is an exciting opportunity for me to continue my collaboration with community partners, working together on research that can inform policy and programming for children who experience family homelessness,” said Dr. Herbers. “I look forward to engaging in conversations about how best to translate the research and incorporate the main concerns of the families and the individuals who serve them. My own research and scholarship will benefit immensely from the perspectives of people at PEC and other community organizations.”
The Visiting Scholar Program at PEC brings together academically talented researchers, as well as regional and statewide networks of public and nonprofit agencies to assist and support families who are experiencing homelessness. Dr. Herbers will work with PEC and other stakeholders to develop innovative ways of addressing challenges associated with family homelessness, while also expanding the scientific evidence base with respect to promoting resilience for children, youth, and families.
Dr. Herbers will remain a full-time Villanova faculty member while she fulfills her year-long role as Visiting Scholar at PEC.
