Gaetan J. Alfano ’80 embodies what it means to be a Villanova lawyer—a leader in the courtroom and in the community. As partner at Pietragallo Gordon Alfano Bosick & Raspanti, LLP, Alfano is consistently recognized as a top commercial litigator by his peers, and in 2016 he will lead the Philadelphia Bar Association as its 89th Chancellor.
Alfano served as Vice Chancellor in 2014 and Chancellor-Elect in 2015. He has extensive experience in commercial and employment disputes, insurance insolvency and receivership law, as well as complex white collar criminal defense and affirmative civil litigation.
Prior to entering civil practice, Alfano was an assistant district attorney under District Attorney Edward G. Rendell. While an Assistant District Attorney in the Motions & Major Crimes Unit, Alfano tried cases on a nearly daily basis. In 2005, Former Gov. Rendell appointed Alfano a commissioner for a bi-state agency, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. He was appointed Vice Chair under the leadership of both Gov. Edward G. Rendell and Gov. Thomas W. Corbett.
As the 2016 Chancellor, Alfano continues his commitment to community service. He is a proud member and past Chancellor of the Justinian Society, a group of Italian-American lawyers and judges, where he was treasurer of its charitable arm, the Justinian Foundation. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Board of Law Examiners—an organization empowered by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania to evaluate candidates for admission to the bar, it emphasizes the importance of professional responsibility and character in the legal profession.
Villanova University School of Law congratulates Alfano for his continued service to the legal community.
