Services for VLS Students

Research Assistance

  • Librarians are available for consultation at the reference desk six days a week during the fall and spring semesters. Semester reference hours are as follows:

Monday - Wednesday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Thursday & Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Sunday 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM

  • Reference Email – You may send a reference question via email.  Messages are handled by the reference librarians during regular business hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.
  • Reference Librarians are available for individual appointments.  The contact information for each librarian is available in the Library Staff Directory.
  • Research guides identifying topic-specific materials available in the Library’s print and electronic resources have been prepared by the librarians.
  • Books and articles not held in the Law Library collection or available from other campus libraries may be requested through interlibrary loan.  The interlibrary loan request form may be submitted electronically or dropped off at the Reference Desk.
  • Access to other university libraries – if you would like to visit the library of another university to use materials not available on campus or through interlibrary loan, please ask one of the law librarians to assist you in contacting the library and arranging for access.

Borrowing & Interlibrary Loan

  • Law students may borrow print materials from the Law Library for 28 days.
  • Law students also have borrowing privileges at Falvey Library, the main University library.
  • Books and articles not available on campus may be requested through interlibrary loan.  Interlibrary loan requests may be submitted electronically using the interlibrary loan form.

Study Rooms & Study Aids

  • There are five study rooms in the Library: one on the Lower Level and two each on the Second and Third Floors.  Two or more students may reserve a study room by entering their names in the study room binder found at the Circulation Desk.
  • A selection of useful hornbooks and law summaries as well as several Bluebooks and copies of Black’s law dictionary are kept on Reserve and may be checked-out for limited periods of time at the Circulation Desk.
  • Head phones, ethernet cords and dry-erase markers for use in Library study rooms are available at the Circulation Desk.

Computers & Printing

  • Twelve computers are available for student use within the Library.  Four are located on each of the first, second and third floors of the Library.  Use of the Law Library computer facilities is limited to Villanova Law students by password login to the network.
  • A University Information Technology Services (UNIT) office is conveniently located through the doorway facing the Library Reference Desk on the first floor.
  • Print/copy machines are located on each floor of the Library.  See the library map for the location of the machines on each floor.
    • The print/copy machines are Wildcard-operated.  Each student will be allocated 1,000 free pages per semester.
    • Additional pages will be available via charge to the student's Wildcard for 5 cents per copy.
    • There are two Lexis printers in the print/copy room on the second floor of the Library.  There is no cost to use the Lexis printers.  Students must send print jobs to the Lexis printers using the print command from their Lexis account.
