During the September Tax Court Calendar Call in Philadelphia, Tax Clinic students provided important advice and assistance to several low-income taxpayers who have disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and no representation.

Anna Gooch and Megan O’Neill, pictured above with Professor Christine Speidel, helped an elderly couple negotiate a favorable settlement whose case involved self-employment expenses.

In addition, Emeka Madubuogo and Rizzlyn Melo helped settle a case where two people had claimed the same child.

Mike Cardone and Jake Shapiro consulted with a taxpayer about common law marriage. Jake successfully argued a motion to continue before the court, giving the taxpayer more time to gather evidence for his claim.

The Tax Clinic students were assisted by Michelle Mendez-Castro who provided interpretation to a Spanish speaking taxpayer. Michelle did a great job helping the taxpayer understand everything.
