NOTICE: Work-study funding allocation is extremely limited. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid before completing a work-study application to determine if work-study funds are still available
Work-study is a form of financial aid available to students who demonstrate financial need and are considered to be enrolled and making academic progress at Villanova Univeristy Charles Widger School of Law. Work-study is awarded to you as part of your financial aid package. Therefore, it is important to remember that any work-study funds awarded to you will reduce your eligibility for other types of aid.
Work-study funds are limited and are awarded to eligible students on a first-come, first-served basis until all funds are expended. No awards for summer work-study will be made after July 1. You can work no more than 20 hours per week during the academic year and no more than 40 hours per week during the summer. Wages range from $11 to $13 per hour. Before applying for work-study, you have to have been offered an eligible work-study position at a federal, state or local public agency or private non-profit organization where the work performed is in the public interest. You cannot receive work-study funds if (1) You are going to receive education credits at the law school through an externship for the position; (2) You receive a Public Interest Fellowship (PIFP) for this same time period; (3) You will be paid by your employer for this position.
To apply for work-study, you must submit all of the necessary financial aid forms as outlined for your program of study in the Application Steps. In addition, you need to complete and submit the following to the Office of Financial Aid:
After your eligibility for work-study has been determined and a contract has been finalized with your employer, you will receive a Work-Study Award Letter that you need to sign and return to the Office of Financial Aid. It is your responsibility to make sure your Work-Study Time Sheets are submitted according to the due dates on the Work-Study Pay Schedule. You will get paid for your hours worked up to the maximum amount you have been awarded as specified in your Work-Study Award Letter. Work-study paychecks will be available for pickup at the main campus. For convenience, you may want to set up direct deposit for your work-study (which is different from direct deposit for your loans) so that your pay check will be directly deposited into your personal account.
