Fraudulent Unemployment Claims Information
Please be aware that recently a significant number of attempts to fraudulently obtain unemployment benefits has been reported. Some Villanova employees recently received unexpected payments from the PA Unemployment Office that appear to be related to such attempts. Please be on the lookout, and if you receive such a payment, notify hr@villanova.edu and follow the steps identified by the PA Unemployment Office located below, especially reporting your Identity theft.
Scammers often use Social Security numbers and other private information to commit unemployment compensation fraud. In many situations, the victims are unaware their identity has been stolen. Scammers are using previously stolen identification to establish fake bank accounts to receive unauthorized unemployment benefits.
If you have received a check from the Check from the Department of Labor & Industry, a Debit Card from the PA Treasury UC/WIF or notice of direct deposit to your bank account for unemployment benefit you did not apply for you may be a victim of identity theft. Please visit the link below click Report Fraud and Identity theft. There is also FAQ’s you may wish to read.
