Step 1: Complete the FAFSA

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students applying for the 2021-2022 Academic Year must complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA.

Step 2: Complete the Villanova University Graduate Student Supplemental Application for Loan Assistance

For the 2021-2022 Academic Year, complete the Villanova University Graduate Student Supplemental Application for Loan Assistance and submit it to the Office of Financial Assistance. 

This application allows our office to create your cost of attendance and certify your Federal Direct Loan evenly among the semesters that you will be attending to certify your Federal Direct Loan evenly among the semesters that you will be attending for the academic year. 

Please Note: If you change your enrollment of the amounts of credits that you will be enrolled for you must submit a revised application to our office.

Step 3: Review Your Financial Aid Notice

After you have successfully submitted the FAFSA and the Villanova University Graduate Student Supplemental Application for Loan Assistance, our office will determine and award your Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan eligibility for the year.  You will receive an email advising you to log onto your MyNova account to view your offered aid.  In your financial aid notice there will be a link to the Financial Aid Booklet for Graduate Students, please carefully read this booklet in its entirety for it contains important information regarding eligibility, financing options, etc.

If you would like to cancel or reduce your offered loan please email our office at finaidloan@villanova.edu.

Step 4: Complete Federal Loan Requirements

If this is the first time you are receiving a Federal Direct Loan at Villanova University as a Graduate Student, you must complete Entrance Counseling and Sign the Master Promissory Note online at https://studentaid.gov

Please Note: Your Federal Direct Loan will NOT disburse to your account until BOTH of these requirements are complete.

Step 5: Consider the Financing Options for Any Remaining Balance

If your Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan does not cover the balance due, you may want to consider the available Financing Options, such as:  Payment Plan, Federal Graduate PLUS Loan, and/or a Private Educational Loan.

Step 6: Monitor your Student Account

You will want to monitor your student account via MyNova for the balance due, loan disbursements, and issuing of refunds.  For more information regarding refunds and having the funds direct deposited, please visit the Bursar's Webpage.
