Fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) profiles of Escherichia coli and enterococci for predicting sources of microbial pollution

Sponsored by: Pennsylvania Water Resources Research Center (US GS grant)

Duration: 2005-2006

Budget: $17,560

This small project extended the scope of FAME profiling research to include indicator organism groups that included fewer species from the same genus, Enterococcus, and that was a species-level indicator, E. coli. The results from this study and VU Summer Research Grant led to a larger research project sponsored by PA Department of Environmental Protection.
