Electives for Civil Engineering: Class of 2023 and Beyond

Six Required Courses for all Departments / Majors

  1. ACS 1000 - Ancients
  2. ACS 1001 - Moderns
  3. THL 1000 - Faith, Reason and Culture
  4. Theology (THL) course or course with CTHL attribute, at the 2000 level or above
  5. Department approved Ethics course
  6. One 3-credit course from:
    • Theology (THL) course or course with CTHL attribute, at the 2000 level or above
    • Philosophy (PHI)
    • Peace and Justice (PJ)
    • ETH 2050 - The Good Life: Ethics & Cont Prob
    • EGR 2930 - Catholic Social Teaching for EGRs

Free Electives

All student must take two Free Electives.   A Free Elective is any course that is 3 or more credits.

CEE Technical Electives

Students must take 7 CEE Technical Electives based on the requirements detailed below.

Sub-discipline electives (minimum of 3) - Must take a course in at least 3 areas.

Transportation

CEE Software Elective (minimum of 1)
  • CEE 3601 - GIS for Engineers
  • CEE 3XXX AutoCAD and Civil 3D

 

Engineering Electives (maximum of 3)

All non-required Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) courses except:

 

All Chemical Engineering (CHE), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Engineering (EGR), and Mechanical Engineering (ME) courses except:

EGR 2930 / CHE 2930 - Catholic Social Teaching for Engineers
ME 4600 - Legal Problems in Engineering

 

Math/Science Electives (maximum of 2)

Any MAT course 3000 or above except:

  • MAT 3100 – Applied Linear Algebra
  • MAT 3930 – History of Mathematics

 

Professional Development Elective (maximum of 1)
EGR 5001 and/or 5002 – Engineering Service Learning Courses
(must have 3 credits)
