Dear Faculty, Students and Staff:
Villanova is headed to the Final Four in Houston, TX! Congratulations to our men’s basketball team, Coach Wright and his staff for an impressive win over the University of Kansas on Saturday night.
What an exciting moment for the University and Villanova basketball. The enthusiasm generated by the success of the men’s basketball team has spread throughout campus. And, judging by the number of Villanovans planning to make the trip to Houston this weekend, it’s clear that the excitement only continues to grow.
The team’s success has also created a new level of interest in Villanova across the country, and we are making the most of this attention by highlighting the strength of our academic programs, the talent of our faculty and students and the power of our community. It’s a wonderful opportunity to bring greater awareness to the exceptional educational experience, rooted in the Augustinian tradition, which makes Villanova such a special place.
As the team prepares for its game against the University of Oklahoma this Saturday, I want to share with you some important Final Four-related information. Plans and preparations are being made for both Saturday’s game and Monday’s National Championship game.
There will be a student game watch in the Connelly Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. There will also be game watches around the country organized through our Alumni Association. To find out more, visit the alumni webpage.
Several Philadelphia landmarks will be lit in blue and white Saturday evening in honor of our team's march to the Final Four. The Ben Franklin Bridge, One and Two Liberty Place, the Wells Fargo Center and the PECO Building will be awash in Villanova colors while the Cira Center will feature our blue "V." Philadelphia Airport will be running good luck Villanova ads on hundreds of LED screens in all seven terminals, and Comcast SportsNet has a digital boards throughout Philly that will show support for Villanova and will be updated with live scores.
I want campus to be a celebratory—but safe and secure—environment to cheer our team to victory. We are working closely with both the Radnor Township and Delaware County officials (police, fire and EMS) to provide extra security on campus. Please note that there may be road closures around campus following a victory in Saturday’s game, and post-game access to campus may be restricted. Additional measures will be taken for Monday’s Championship game to ensure safety and security in and around campus.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the faculty and staff throughout the University who are helping to coordinate these efforts. I appreciate all you do for Villanova, and thank you for making our students’ safety and well-being a priority.
Whether you are making the trip to Houston or celebrating here on campus, I encourage everyone, especially our students, to celebrate responsibly and represent our University and its values as your cheer the team to victory.
Congratulations again to the team, and Go Cats!
