Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
During the Conversation with the President at the beginning of the semester, I indicated that the search process for the position of provost soon would begin. The Board of Trustees approved a job description at its October meeting, a search firm has been retained and a search committee representing Trustees, administrators, faculty, deans and students has been formed. With these key items in place the process now can move forward.
This is an important position at an important time at Villanova. A successful ongoing capital campaign, a plan to position the University effectively in national rankings, a vibrant student body, and a distinguished community of faculty scholars are creating unprecedented momentum at the University. The new position of provost will build upon this momentum and the great foundation of excellence that has defined Villanova since 1842 to help guide the University forward in an increasingly complex landscape for higher education.
I take very seriously the task of finding the right person for this new position of provost and am therefore committed to conducting a thorough search that identifies the person who represents the best fit for Villanova. The committee, chaired by Nancy Sharts-Hopko, PhD, Professor and Director, PhD Program, College of Nursing, soon will begin working with the firm, Diversified Search, to evaluate candidates for this important leadership position. I look forward to keeping you updated as the process moves forward.
Fr. Peter Donohue, OSA
