Rise to the Top: Experiential Education Series

Basics Session:

Offered multiple times throughout the fall and spring semesters, this session is suggested for first-year and new students as an introduction to the various experiential education opportunities that are available through VSB and the University. Freshmen/sophomore-level leadership and externship programs, internships, CoOps, and opportunities for earning academic credit for participation in internships/CoOps are discussed. Pre-registration is not required. Find upcoming sessions on Handshake under the events section.

Action Plan Workshop: (Registration is Required)

Held every other week, this workshop is designed to maximize student’s externship/internship search. Conducted as small group sessions, students are provided with hands-on, personalized guidance and explore valuable resources including Hankshake, Linkedin, and NovaNetwork (alumni database). To register for an Internship Action Plan workshop, search the events section of Handshake or contact the Clay Center. Each student is required to bring a laptop.

Individual Appointment/Drop-ins:

Meet with your designated Experiential Ed Staff member for additional support around professional development. Topics can include: externships/leadership programs, completing an internship for academic credit and/or participating in one of VSB’s CoOp programs, and the overall search process.

Drop-ins: Students can stop by the Clay Center on Mondays and Thursdays from 10-12 p.m.

Internship/CoOp Launch Session:

After accepting an academic internship or CoOp, students attend this mandatory workshop to prepare for their upcoming work experience. Students will review requirements and guidelines for receiving academic credit and prepare for the professional challenges they will face on the job, such as professional communication, networking, and appropriate use of downtime. Students who are completing an internship/CoOp for academic credit will be required to attend this session prior to the start of their experiential education experience.
