Melissa Jenkings

Undergraduate University: Kutztown University of Pennsylvania

Undergraduate Major: Finance; Minors in Mathematics, Economics, and Actuarial Science

Graduation Date: 2019

Hometown: Cape Town, South Africa

Favorite Philadelphia, Main Line or Villanova Activity: I really enjoy going for dinner at the Reading Terminal Market.

Why did you choose the Villanova MSF: The small class size of a very competitive program peeked my interest as I wanted to be in a well known program where I could build relationships with my peers and professors. Villanova also has impressive job placements and even though I was not planning on going into industry, I wanted to be at an institution that is a support system for their students.

Career interests/plans: Professor in Finance (will be pursuing my Ph.D. after graduation).

Favorite class experience in the MSF: My favorite class experience so far has been the challenge assignment in the Portfolio class. This assignment allows you to challenge your peers and the stocks that they manage in a friendly and constructive manner.

Career interests/plans: Currently interested in analyst and associate positions that will enable me to apply everything I have learned for the last five years. Actively pursuing a private capital investors associate role.

Favorite Philadelphia, Main Line or Villanova Activity: I love visiting the Reading Terminal Market. The food is amazing! Also, the Rocky Steps are really cool to visit if you’re a fan.

Why did you choose Villanova: I chose Villanova due to their amazing faculty, small class sizes, and incredible alumni network.

Favorite class experience in the MSF: I have two favorite classes. Portfolio Management has been truly enriching and challenging with the stock pitches, bear-case challenges and other presentations we have done. Quantitative Finance has introduced me to the meeting point between financial analysis and SAS coding and the many possibilities.
