market u

The market u initiative is a student-facing initiative that is designed to create a community for VSB marketing majors. market u is the marketing department's central clearinghouse for the internship and job search process for undergraduate marketing majors and minors. The goal is to engage and excite students about fun and interesting careers in marketing through connecting students and alumni in the students’ fields of interest. market u schedules connection, training, and networking events by class year, featuring prominent alumni in the industries of advertising and public relations, brand management, corporate sales and business development, digital and social media marketing, sports marketing, and other relevant areas.

The market u team works alongside the O’Donnell Center for Professional Development and the Clay Center to offer various career exploration and preparation programs. This program helps students identify core skills based on their professional and non-professional work experience. Students then are encouraged to link these skills to the key skills needed for entry-level marketing jobs while receiving guidance on best practices for interacting and following-up with the company representatives they encounter.

Programming is also offered to newly declared marketing majors to outline the basics of the major, welcome them to the department, and expose them to the variety of job choices available in marketing. Efforts are made to bring marketing alumni back to campus to mentor our current students.
