The birthplace of American democracy took center stage as a truly global city. That was the driving principle behind GlobalPhilly™ 2015, a 60-day international exposition that celebrated and showcased Philadelphia and its diverse heritage and strengths from September 15 through November 15, attracting over 100,000 visitors.
Villanova University served as a main sponsor for the program and the Center for Global Leadership collaborated with the MBA Program to feature an Open House and lecture by Center Faculty Director Jonathan Doh on October 14 entitled, “Globalization and the Changing Balance of Economic Power.” The event was held in Center City at The Hub and attracted more than 40 business professionals and potential MBA candidates. Center director Kim Cahill remarked, “This was the perfect opportunity to increase our visibility and showcase VSB’s international business expertise and global opportunities within the larger context of GP15.”
Presented by the Global Philadelphia Association, GlobalPhilly™ 2015 offered a lineup of 175 events and programs centered on international themes and issues. Member organizations featured events in eight categories: Advocacy, Arts, Commerce, Cuisine, Education, Heritage, Science & Technology and Sports.
His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, film director M. Night Shyamalan and Peter Feldmann, Mayor of Frankfurt, Germany, visited Philadelphia for events that were part of GlobalPhilly™ 2015. “Scores of organizations across the region and around the world are collaborated through GlobalPhilly™ 2015 to offer activities and programs that will enrich lives in the community, foster international dialogue, and instill even greater pride in our international city,” said Zabeth Teelucksingh, Executive Director of the Global Philadelphia Association. “We are coming together as Global Philadelphians dedicated to preserving our diverse heritage and building an even brighter future for our region on the world stage.”
It has been an exceptional year for the Global Philadelphia Association as they celebrated their fifth anniversary milestone, Philadelphia’s effective designation as a World Heritage City and the successful completion of the GlobalPhilly 2015 exposition.
