CLEARANCES        All volunteers will need triple clearance ttps://www1.villanova.edu/villanova/president/uco/minors/background_checks.html

Follow direction for volunteers.    You must turn in copies to director

The hope of the director (Ms. Sondra Butler) is that mentors/tutors will form relationships with the students that go beyond homework or games.  Tutors will be assigned the same Bethel students each week.   The students are about half African American and half Hispanic/Latino who attend Lower Merion Schools. .  Sone students speak English as a second language.   Most of them attend Lower Merion Schools.

Villanova tutors may be asked to go on enrichment or education trips with a group of children, or connect with them during the week.  We may seek permission from parents for students and mentors to communicate by email in between tutoring days.  (This may represent a liability issue).  Tutors will plan a college visit for the children to make college a realizable and comfortable.

Tutors are expected to serve once a week while Villanova or lower Merion schools are in session.    These children will look to tutors as role models, missing tutoring, lateness or carelessness is something you teach others about you and about the relationship.  Your love, care and concern is shown by your consistency.  Phones are to be completely off while you are at Bethel Academy.
