Application to Declare or Change Major
To declare a first/primary major or change your major, complete this form, have your current faculty advisor sign it, and submit it to the desired major department. If approved, you will receive notification from OUS regarding your new advisor.
Application for Secondary Major
Students who wish to declare a second or third major within CLAS should complete this application and submit it to the desired major department. If approved, you will receive notification from OUS regarding your additional advisor.
Application for a CLAS Minor or Concentration
To declare a minor or concentration within CLAS, complete this form and submit it to the desired concentration/minor department/program.
Application for Students in Other Colleges to Declare a CLAS Major
Students in the College of Engineering, School of Business and College of Nursing who wish to declare a second major within CLAS should complete this application, have your current faculty advisor sign it, and submit it to the desired major department. Students in other colleges will not earn a dual degree by completing a major in CLAS. Students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences should NOT use this form.
Petition for Core Language Requirement Exemption
Students who are fluent in languages for which no comprehensive exam is offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences may petition for an exemption from the Core Curriculum language requirement by submitting a written request for exemption along with documentation of proficiency from an accredited institution. International students may submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores as documentation of foreign language proficiency for the purposes of the petition process. Students deemed proficient through the petition process must instead take two additional free electives to assure that they will have enough courses to fulfill graduation requirements.
Request for Permission to Overload
After the registration period has ended, the Registrar will increase the credit limits for those who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to 19 for Arts and 21 for Sciences students. Students whose cumulative GPA is below 3.0 may be granted permission to take a sixth course ONLY IF you have senior status and are in need of the course to fulfill graduation requirements. Complete this form, have your advisor sign it, and submit it to OUS (SAC 107). You will receive a notification as to whether your request has been granted.
Request for a Credit Increase
Complete this form prior to your registration time if you are an Arts student who needs more than 17 credits or a Sciences student who needs more than 19 credits to register for five courses. Students may NOT register for more than five courses of 3 or more credits during the initial registration period. Submit the form to OUS (SAC 107). Once the need is verified, you will be notified by email when the credits have been increased.
Request to Take a Course as Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors may take one free-elective course per semester on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory basis. Although the course will not be calculated into the GPA, students must earn a C or higher to earn credit for the course. Please read the policies and stipulations on the form carefully. Complete the form prior to the end of the drop/add period and submit it to the Office of the Registrar (Tolentine 203).
Request to Audit a Course
Students may audit a course only with the proper approvals. Please read the policies and stipulations on the form carefully. Complete the form prior to the end of the drop/add period and submit it to the Office of the Registrar (Tolentine 203).
Request to Enroll in Courses at another Institution
Students may be granted permission to take comparable courses at another accredited four-year institution if the course is not offered in an acceptable format at VU. Please read the policies and stipulations on the form carefully. Complete the form, attach a course description or syllabus and submit to the CLAS department offering a comparable course. If approved, the form must then be signed by your major department’s chairperson or by OUS (if undeclared). If approved, OUS will notify you as to whether the course has been approved so that you can register. Courses MUST be pre-approved to assure transfer credit.
Request to Remove AP Course Credit
Please fill out this form when requesting to remove credit previously earned through an advanced placement test and submitted to Villanova. Submitting this request finalizes the removal of the credits from your transcript which is permanent and cannot be undone. Students who need additional time to complete coursework, may request an incomplete (“N” grade) from your professor. Students wishing to take an incomplete in more than one class must contact the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Students in OUS (SAC 107) and submit the appropriate documentation to support the request.
Request for a Grade Extension on an Incomplete Grade
Students who have taken an incomplete but need more time to complete the work, must first gain the approval of your professor. If your professor grants your request, you must agree upon a completion date for your work, complete this form prior to the initial deadline for the submission of work, and submit it to OUS (SAC 107).
Student Voluntary Medical Leave of Absence
Students who are unable to attend class and complete work may need to take a medical leave of absence. For more information contact the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Students located in SAC 107 - MLOA form is located here.
Villanova University Student Disclosure Form (Family Education Rights Privacy Act) Students seeking accommodations may need to complete this form to allow the Dean to speak with the appropriate medical providers.
Internal Transfer Application and Policies
Students in the College of Engineering, School of Business or College of Nursing who wish to transfer to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences should read and sign the Internal Transfer Policy, complete the Internal Transfer Application, and submit both to OUS (SAC 107). Application for Re-admission
Students who previously attended CLAS, but did not complete their degree and seek to be readmitted should complete this application and submit to OUS (SAC 107).
Permission to Participate in Commencement Ceremonies
Students who have no more than three courses to complete the summer following graduation may petition to participate in graduation ceremonies. Complete this form, have the chairperson of your major department sign it, and submit to OUS (SAC 107).
