Frequently Asked Questions
Most students in the CLAS enter as Exploratory Arts or Exploratory Sciences. These students will be assigned to specialized faculty advisors who will guide them through the process of exploring the curriculum and deciding on a major. Once you declare a major, you will be advised by a faculty member in your major department. Students entering with a declared science major will be assigned to a faculty member from their major department.
Once you have declared a primary major, you may declare a second major. You should consult your advisor and/or the Office for Undergraduate Students to see whether a second major is feasible in your case and to discuss whether this is the best way to utilize your free elective courses.
Students who enter as Exploratory Arts normally declare their major sometime during the sophomore year. Students who enter as Exploratory Sciences normally declare their major at the end of freshman year. To declare or change your major, you must complete the Declare/Change Major form on MyNova.
In some cases. Students may apply to earn transfer credit for courses taken elsewhere if the same or comparable courses are not available through Villanova. To seek approval for transfer credit, you must complete the Request to Enroll in Courses at Another Institution form on MyNova prior to registration. You must have a cumulative GPA above 2.0 or higher to take summer courses elsewhere. Please note: only courses in which students earn a grade of C or better are eligible for transfer credit. Grades earned in courses elsewhere will not appear on the Villanova transcript and will not factor into a student’s GPA.
The Office of the Registrar creates a fall semester class schedule for each incoming freshman. This schedule may be accessed through MyNova in mid-August. Pre-registration for the spring semester takes place in October. All students are required to meet with their faculty advisor to review the curriculum requirements and to receive their registration PIN. Students then register on-line through MyNova. New registration PINs are assigned each semester.
Following the official drop/add period at the beginning of the semester, students may request to withdraw from a course without academic penalty (WX) prior to the published deadline on the Academic Calendar.
Withdrawal forms are available in the Office for Undergraduate Students, 107 St. Augustine Center, and require the signature of your faculty advisor.
