Join the Villanova Chapter of Pi Alpha Alpha for an upcoming professional development webinar featuring Maria Miranda, MPA '17, who currently serves as the State Strategic Advisory - OH & PA for the STB Foundation.
The nonprofit sector can often fall prey to the latest buzzwords like “equity,” with Board and staff members asking themselves, for example, “How can our organization conduct programs equitably?” or “Is equity part of our mission?” Many nonprofit leaders are confused about what equity means and how it differs from diversity and inclusion. For others, a more equitable program model means having some difficult conversations about issues like race, class, and gender with staff and Board members.
This webinar will serve as a primer for nonprofit leaders who are interested in tackling discussions about equity in nonprofit organizations. What is it? Why is it important? What does it look like in practice? What makes it so difficult? This webinar will provide a safe space for conversation and exchange, so participants can discuss the many challenges and barriers as well as define actions and a process to achieve positive outcomes.
- Learn strategic doing
- Envision what equity implies for Board management and training
- Envision a staff development program for tackling the topic of equity
Practical skills discussed:
- The core concepts of equity
- Assessing equity in the organization
- Formulating a plan to build equity in a nonprofit
