VILLANOVA, Pa. – Kelly Welch, PhD, a faculty member in Villanova University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, is one of a select group of university professors chosen to speak Nov. 14 at Philadelphia Magazine’s 2014 ThinkFest event. ThinkFest is a one-day program that invites the city’s “biggest thinkers” to “share their boldest ideas and most inspiring stories.” It is held at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business in Philadelphia.

Welch, who teaches in Villanova’s Department of Sociology and Criminology, and is an expert on racial profiling, will give a presentation titled, “Inside Ferguson: Punitive Consequences of Minority Stereotypes” as part of ThinkFestU, a new addition to the annual ThinkFest event. ThinkFestU will feature some of the Philadelphia area’s most dynamic university professors giving lectures from their areas of expertise. Presentations will be made in a format similar to that of TedX lectures.

Featured speakers at ThinkFest include: M. Night Shyamalan, filmmaker and co-founder of the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation; Dr. William Hite, superintendent of the Philadelphia School District; Christina Weiss Lurie,  co-owner of The Philadelphia Eagles; and Alex Rice, coach of the Taney Dragons, and Nick Bayer, CEO of Saxby’s Coffee.
