About the project
The Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami is partnering with The Wolfsonian—FIU to create a fully digital and freely accessible exhibition featuring HIV/AIDS posters from over forty countries: Cuba, Vietnam, Seychelles, Uganda, Australia, Luxembourg, Venezuela, Tahiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Tanzania, United Arab Emirates and many others.
Using the Lepage Center grant funds, the exhibition will be expanded to incorporate a final section featuring COVID-19 posters from around the world. This will allow visitors to identify and study contemporary messages framed by the novel coronavirus pandemic—including family values, changing behaviors, and nationalism—once equipped with the historical context of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
The digital exhibition will be freely accessible on the Web utilizing Google Arts & Culture (GA&C). The GA&C provides museums and cultural institutions with a virtual exhibition template and hosting platform.
